Business counsel – outsourced general counsel services
I have enjoyed more than 35 years of legal practice, over 25 of it as a senior in-house attorney and then Vice President – Corporate Counsel at Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. From late 2019 into 2020, I served Bed Bath as Interim Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for nearly half a year, assisting the Company and its then-new leadership during a period of significant management turnover and operational disruption. This included helping coordinate the Company’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and leading the work of the legal department during this challenging period.
Prior to my tenure at Bed Bath, from 1988 to 1993, I was associated with a major New Jersey law firm, Riker Danzig LLP, with a practice focused on real estate related litigation. I have conducted jury and non-jury trials and have argued before appellate courts.
I started this firm in order to provide high quality counsel services on an as-needed basis to New Jersey based businesses who may not have the budget for a full-time in-house attorney or legal staff.
Over the course of my career, I have been privileged to experience just about every type of legal challenge and opportunity that can confront a small, medium and large cap organization. Most importantly, I have learned that the key to effective business counsel is to put an organization’s leaders in a position to focus on business rather than on the potential distractions legal matters may present, and to provide those leaders with professional guidance and experienced judgment to help them address such matters in a way that supports their business goals.
Given the nature of my practice, which also includes a fair amount of pro bono activity, I only accept work from a select number of clients.
